FAQs

Should the child, parent, or both do a brain map?

In many cases, both can be incredibly helpful.

Mapping the child’s brain can reveal patterns that influence focus, emotional regulation, learning, and behavior—helping the parent and clinican better understand what may be driving the challenges they’re experiencing.

Mapping ones own brain can be just as valuable. Parenting often brings stress, emotional reactions, and communication challenges that are influenced by how their own brain processes situations. Understanding their patterns can help them respond more calmly, communicate more effectively, and create environments where the child can thrive.

When both parent and child understand how their brains work, it often becomes much easier to navigate challenges together.

Why would a couple choose to do brain mapping together?

Many relationship challenges stem from how differently our brains process stress, emotions, and communication. Brain mapping can help each partner understand their own patterns—such as emotional reactivity, stress response, and how their brain settles after conflict.

When both partners understand these patterns, it can create greater awareness of how they respond to each other and how they navigate difficult conversations.

The testing comes with a focused e book on navigating relationships with different brain types, which can be a game changer for communication.

Can my whole family do brain mapping?

Yes. Brain mapping can be done by multiple members of a family, and many families choose to do it together. Each person’s brain processes stress, emotions, attention, and communication differently. When family members understand their own patterns—and how those patterns differ from others—it can create greater awareness, empathy, and more effective ways of supporting each other at home.

How can brain mapping help me at work?

Your ability to focus, think clearly under pressure, make decisions, and manage stress is closely tied to how your brain functions.

Brain mapping can reveal patterns that may be affecting concentration, mental stamina, and how your brain responds to pressure—helping you understand why work sometimes feels harder than it should and how to work with your brain more effectively.

Why would someone do a brain scan if nothing is “wrong”?

Many people choose brain mapping not because they have a diagnosis, but because they want a clearer understanding of how their brain is functioning.

A qEEG scan can reveal patterns related to focus, stress response, mental energy, and emotional processing, even in people who consider themselves generally healthy.

For some, it helps explain challenges like brain fog, overwhelm, or difficulty concentrating. For others, it simply provides deeper insight into how their brain works so they can make more informed decisions about lifestyle, work, and mental performance.

How does the scan work?

You’ll relax in a chair while, small sensors are placed on your scalp to record your brain’s activity. We’ll record with eyes closed and eyes open. The whole process takes less than 30 minutes. The scan itself is non-invasive and comfortable.

What is a Neuro Performance Report™ ? Can I see a sample?

A Neuro Performance Report™ is a quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) analysis and reporting system designed to provide clinically relevant insights into brain function. It translates complex brainwave data into actionable reports, helping healthcare providers make informed decisions on diagnosis and treatment.

How is this different from traditional cognitive testing?

Traditional cognitive testing evaluates how well you perform on tasks like memory, attention, and processing speed.

qEEG brain mapping looks at something different: the electrical activity of your brain itself.

Instead of measuring performance on a test, it measures how different regions of your brain are communicating and regulating activity. This allows us to identify patterns related to focus, stress response, mental energy, and emotional regulation that may not appear in standard cognitive testing and take appropriate action customized to the unique brain.

How long does it take to receive my results?

After the scan is completed, the brainwave data is analyzed and compiled into your Neuro Performance Report™.

Most patients receive their report and access to the Neuroscience Decoded guide within 10 days of the scan, if not sooner.

In the interim, your patients have access to the educaitonal resources to start learning more about the metrics tested so they are well armed with the insformation they need to understand their when their results when they arrive.

What happens after I refer?

Depending on the relationship set up between your practice and Dr. Pingel, there are multiple ways to order the testing to make it convienient for your practice flow.

Once a test is ordered, our team will connect your patient with our schedule for the qEEG brain map. We can do this in our office, and potentially on site at yours if you prefer.

The scan itself takes about 30 minutes and is performed comfortably. Small sensors are placed on the scalp to record brain activity while  eyes are open and closed.

Once the scan is complete:

• the brain data is analyzed
• the Neuro Performance Report™ is generated
• They will receive access to the Neuroscience Decoded guide and additional resources. The patinet can sign a medical release form at time of scan to authorize a copy also sent to your office.

The results will help better understand how their brain processes focus, stress, mental energy, and emotional responses, and how to work with those patterns more effectively.

How is a Neuro Performance Report™ different from a standard qEEG report?

Many traditional qEEG reports focus on diagnostic categories or technical brainwave data, which doesn’t translate into clear guidance for everyday life.

The Neuro Performance Report™ and analysis from Dr. Pingel goes further by interpreting the brain’s activity patterns and turning them into personalized insights and recommendations. Instead of placing everyone into the same diagnostic box, the report focuses on the unique brain and provides practical guidance for supporting focus, stress regulation, communication, and performance.

Is qEEG brain mapping safe?

Yes. qEEG brain mapping is completely non-invasive and safe.

The sensors placed on the scalp simply record electrical activity that the brain naturally produces. Nothing is sent into the brain, and there is no radiation, medication, or discomfort involved.

Most people find the process relaxing and the entire recording takes less than 20 minutes.

Is a Neuro Performance Report™ intended to replace other diagnostic tools?

No. A Neuro Performance Report™ is designed to complement—not replace—other evaluations or diagnostic tools.

It provides clinically interpretable brain activity data along with an educational analysis by Dr. Pingel that you can use alongside clinical evaluations, assessments, and other testing to better understand how your patient’s brain is functioning.

How is the Neuro Performance Report™ generated?

The process begins with an in-office qEEG recording performed by a trained staff member. The EEG data is then securely transmitted to certified Axon EEG Solutions via their secure platform, EEGDataHub for analysis. The results are compiled into a clinically interpretable report, which you can use to develop personalized treatment plans.
