Homemade Peach Ice Cream with Blackberries and Lavender

Homemade peach ice cream is a lot easier to make than you may think. Once you try this recipe, you’ll never spend another moment aimlessly walking down the freezer section at your local grocery store in search of that perfect pint of ice cream.

Many of the ice creams you purchase from the store contain a lot of heavy cream, sweet and condensed milk, and egg yolks—and most are custard-based. As a result, they don’t provide many health benefits.

This homemade peach ice cream recipe contains fresh peaches, fresh blackberries, lemon juice, and lavender. It’s simple to make, and the flavor profile is perfect for these end-of-summer days.

3 Health Benefits of This Homemade Peach Ice Cream

1. Loaded with antioxidants and vitamin C

Wouldn’t it be nice to have some ice cream that helps boost your immune system? I thought so, too, and that’s why I created this homemade peach ice cream recipe.

Blackberries, peaches, and lemon all contain vitamin C and antioxidants that have immune-enhancing benefits. Now, it may not eradicate your cold or allergy symptoms in five minutes, but consuming vitamin C has been shown to reduce cold symptoms by a couple of days! [1]

When your body is inflamed from eating the standard American diet, it’s more susceptible to bacteria overgrowth, viruses, and parasites. When you provide your body with proper nutrients, such as vitamin C and antioxidants, you can reduce inflammation by fighting free radicals and lowering oxidative stress within the body. [2]

Blackberries also contain an antioxidant called cyanidin-3-glucoside—a type of anthocyanin (or phytochemical) that reduces oxidative damage. [3]

2. Supports heart health

This homemade peach ice cream recipe contains ingredients that may even aid in healthy heart function. Here’s how.

Have you ever wondered what gives blackberries their deep, purple color? They contain the phytochemical I mentioned above-called anthocyanin. These phytochemicals act as an antioxidant, helping to fight inflammation system-wide. Inflammation is linked to a plethora of conditions such as heart disease, perimenopause, hypothyroidism, and more.

Studies have shown that anthocyanin may help fight and lower the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. This is due to both its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. [4]

When you add stress to the mix, your body creates and retains even more inflammation. So, you must be providing your body with the proper foods to help fight that inflammation.

3. Boosts energy and supports brain function

Do you ever find that you feel foggy and “off” after eating store-bought ice cream?  I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with a couch and Netflix session, but you shouldn’t be feeling so “blah” after eating a couple of scoops of ice cream.

The gut-brain connection is real. I say this all the time, but what you eat directly impacts how you feel and function. If you’re experiencing a plethora of symptoms, such as adrenal fatigue and brain fog, I’m going to ask you what your diet looks like and how much water you’re drinking. Then I’d suggest you ask your doctor to check your liver function to see how well you’re detoxing. Many times, the diet isn’t as clean as it could be, or you’re not drinking enough water to stay properly hydrated.

I like to provide delicious, whole-food recipes so that you have the resources to equip yourself with the best ingredients. And I chose coconut milk for this recipe because coconut milk contains MCTs, which provide quick energy for the body. They also help stabilize blood sugar levels, which studies have shown can help improve brain function. [5]
